Safe Routes to Schools
In May 2012, the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District received a $100,000 grant from the San Mateo County Office of Education to implement a Safe Routes to School program. The funding is designated for education and encouragement activities that promote walking and biking to school.
The Safe Routes to School program is a coordinated effort to change community behavior, attitudes, and social norms to make it safer for children in grades K-8 to walk and bike to school.

- International Walk to School Day, Earth Day, National Bike to School
- Weekly or monthly Walk & Roll Days
- Walking School Buses
- Kiddie Valet /Traffic Controller Programs
- Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Classes by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition
- Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Video
- Golden Sneaker Awards
- Community Safety Outreach

BRSSD SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL POLICY
In April 2014, the School Board adopted a Safe Routes to School board policy and administrative regulations. All district policies may be viewed through the School Board tab of the website but the Safe Routes to School policy is also available here.
