Guadalupe Guerrero Named New Superintendent

To our BRSSD community,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, it is my great pleasure to welcome Guadalupe Guerrero as the next superintendent of the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District.
Throughout our superintendent search, we sought an experienced leader who would build on BRSSD’s strong foundation of academic excellence and commitment to the whole child, embrace our community, and bring the instructional leadership and collaborative spirit to lead our district into the future.
And we are thrilled that Mr. Guerrero will be that leader.
From our conversations with him, it was clear that he sees both the extraordinary strengths of BRSSD today and the opportunities before us to make an already exceptional district even stronger.
Mr. Guerrero brings more than 30 years of experience in public education, with a career that began right here in the Bay Area as a bilingual classroom teacher in San Francisco. From there, he went on to serve as a principal and in increasingly senior leadership roles across several school districts before becoming the superintendent of Portland Public Schools. Along the way, he returned to the Bay Area to serve as Deputy Superintendent of Instruction, Innovation & Social Justice for the San Francisco Unified School District. That journey reflects both a deep grounding in teaching and learning and an understanding of schools and educational systems from the classroom to the district level.
What particularly impressed the Board was not simply the depth of Mr. Guerrero’s experience, but his strong instructional leadership, his ability to build strong educational systems, and his thoughtful and collaborative approach to leadership. Throughout his career, he has maintained a clear focus on keeping teaching, learning, and student well-being at the center of the work.
These qualities align closely with our aspirations for BRSSD. We want our students not only to achieve academically, but to develop the curiosity, confidence, and skills to thrive in a rapidly changing world. We want our educators to feel inspired and supported, our families and community to be engaged partners, and our schools to be places where every student has the opportunity to discover who they are and who they can become.
Mr. Guerrero shares that vision and brings the leadership and perspective to help us bring it to life.

I look forward to partnering with trustees, school leaders, educators, staff, and families to build on the district's strengths and ensure that every student feels a sense of belonging, experiences academic success, and has the opportunity to thrive. I am especially excited to visit our schools, listen and learn from the community, and get to know the students, educators, and families who make Belmont-Redwood Shores such a special place,” said Mr. Guerrero.
On behalf of the entire Board, we are thrilled to welcome Mr. Guerrero to the BRSSD community. We look forward to working together to advance our commitment to equity and inclusion, build on our district’s many successes, and take BRSSD to new heights of excellence.
