Title IX
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.
Children can start school based on their age by September 1 of the upcoming school year as follows:
If they turn 4 years old on or before September 1, they can enroll in Transitional Kindergarten (TK).
If they turn 5 years old on or before September 1, they can enroll in Kindergarten.
Transitional Kindergarten is part of the public school system and is free to participating students; however, registration in the TK program is optional. Students who enroll will attend the program for the full school year and then attend kindergarten at their school of assignment for the following school year. Many students will not attend Transitional Kindergarten at their school of assignment. Classes will be a minimum of three hours daily.
The following School sites currently offer TK:
Cipriani / Fox / Redwood Shores Elementary / Sandpiper / Nesbit*
*Nesbit will start in the 26-27 year and will be reviewed annually based on enrollment
Transitional Kindergarten will be taught by a credentialed teacher and is intended to give young learners a head start and provide them with an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs. The teacher will help children develop social and communication skills through activities that build confidence while supporting the traditional kindergarten curriculum of math, literacy, and language development taught in interactive ways.
TK Enrollment Process
The enrollment process for the TK Program is the same process as traditional kindergarten. Parents should see our Enrollment and School Assignment pages for more information.
