Title IX

Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 is a federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in any school receiving federal funds.  

 

What is Sex-Based Harassment under Title IX?

There are 3 categories that fall under Title IX Sexual Harassment:

  • Quid Pro Quo: promises made in exchange for sexual favors by an employee, agent, or person authorized by the District

  • Hostile Environment Harassment: unwelcome conduct determined by a reasonable person to be so severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive that it effectively denies a person equal access to the education program or activity

  • Sexual Assault, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, and Stalking

When can someone file a complaint?
For Title IX complaints, a Complainant must be participating in or attempting to participate in the educational program or activity at the time of filing the complaint.

How may I file a complaint under Title IX?
Contact an administrator at your school site or contact the Title IX Coordinator using the information above.

What if I think I'm experiencing sexual harassment, but I'm not sure if it meets the Title IX definitions above?
District Policy and Education Code govern other types of sexual harassment that don't fall under Title IX. If you think you may be experiencing any kind of harassment, report it to a staff member immediately.
