Join Our School Board: Make a Difference in Belmont and Redwood Shores
Are you passionate about education and eager to make a positive impact in your community? If so, consider joining our school board! As a locally elected public official, you'll have the opportunity to govern and oversee our public schools, shaping the future of education for generations to come.
Who Are School Board Members?
School board members are dedicated individuals entrusted with the responsibility of governing our community's public schools. They serve as advocates for students, parents, and educators, ensuring that our schools provide the highest quality education possible.
Why The School Boards Matter
Citizen oversight of local government is crucial to maintaining a thriving democracy, and our school board plays a pivotal role in this process. By serving on the board, you'll contribute to the decision-making process that impacts the direction and priorities of our school district.
The Responsibilities of School Board Members
As a school board member, you'll be responsible for setting the direction of our schools alongside of the Superintendent, establishing an effective organizational structure, providing support to district staff, ensuring accountability to the public, and acting as a community leader. Your input and leadership will be invaluable in guiding our district toward excellence.
How to Get Involved
In November 2026, we will be electing one trustee from Area 1, one trustee from Area 3 and one trustee from Area 5. This presents an exciting opportunity for residents of our community to become directly involved in shaping the future of our schools. Residents can find their assigned trustee area here, or by clicking on the map below.
If you're interested in learning more about becoming a school board member and representing your community on our board, please email me, Dan Deguara, at ddeguara@brssd.org. In addition, the current Board of Trustees will be conducting an information session on May 11th from 6-7:30pm at the San Mateo County Office of Education if you’d like to hear from our current trustees on what it’s like to be a board member. This session will also be recorded and available on our website.
Your participation is essential to ensuring that our schools continue to provide the highest quality education for all students in our community.
Becoming a school board member is a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and families in Belmont and in Redwood Shores. Together, we can work to create a brighter future for our community!
