Confirmation of School Closure through June 2020

At noon today, we received this press release stating that Health Officers and Superintendents from six Bay Area counties have decided to dismiss students for the remainder of the current school year, through June, 2020.

We realize this is significant news that has implications for grades, assessments, and year-end activities. Here is what we can share about these topics at present:

  • We may revise our approach to academic grades for students in grades 6-8, depending on state and county guidance as well as what's decided by the Sequoia High School District for their classes. We expect to have resolution on this no later than April 30.

  • The California Department of Education has cancelled state testing (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, CAASPP) in all grades, 3-8 and 11, for the 2019-20 school year.

  • We have initiated conversations with our PTA leaders and will work with them on Grade 5 and 8 promotions and other year-end activities that we would normally have to celebrate our students' accomplishments.

In the short term, our focus is on continuing our program and services remotely and supporting At-Home Learning . Over the course of April, we will be addressing the above topics and other aspects of our program affected by the extended school closure.

Second Trimester Report Cards

Trimester 2 report cards have now been published to the Illuminate Parent Portal. Please note, Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Ralston students do not receive a Trimester 2 report card, and their Semester 2 report cards will be available in June.

You can access the parent portal at  https://brssd.illuminatehc.com ; use your email address and self-selected password to log into your parent portal account. You will need an access code the first time you try to register for an account. (These were sent to individuals on August 21, 2019.) If you need help accessing your portal account, please email  edservices@brssd.org . Instructions on how to navigate to the report cards within the parent portal can be found here .

Thank you for your patience and support regarding these extraordinary developments. We are committed to doing all that we can to continue serving your student. As always, your questions and feedback are welcome.

Sincerely,

Michael Milliken
Superintendent
